NAMI San Fernando Valley is once again glad to offer Peer-to-Peer classes. NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free, 10-session educational program for adults with mental illness who are looking to better understand their conditions and journey toward recovery. Taught by a trained team of people who’ve been there, the program includes presentation, discussion and interactive exercises.
NAMI PEER-TO-PEER HELPS PEOPLE:
- Create a personalized relapse prevention plan
- Learn how to interact with health care providers
- Develop confidence for making decisions and reducing stress
- Stay up-to-date on mental health research
- Understand the impact of symptoms on your life
- Access practical resources on how to maintain your journey toward recovery
WHAT DOES PEER-TO-PEER INCLUDE?
- Current information about the major mental illnesses and the most current research available on the biological aspects of these illnesses
- Information on recovery, including a variety of treatment strategies currently available
- Skills training in the areas of problem solving, listening, communication techniques and handling crisis and relapse
- Guidance on locating appropriate supports and services within the community and offer tips of advocating for those supports and services
- Promotes stigma reduction through education and personal contact with individuals with a mental illness.
NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a recovery education course open to anyone experiencing a mental health challenge. The course is designed to encourage growth, healing and recovery among participants.
