International Women’s Day March
This Sunday, March 8, the International Women’s Day March will be coming to downtown Los Angeles. Watch out for street closures and increased traffic around City Hall starting at 12:00 PM. The march will end at the Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights.
From Her: An Exhibition in Honor of National Women’s History Month
The El Pueblo Historical Monument & El Pueblo Park Association will present an opening reception for the From Her art exhibit on Thursday, March 5 at 6:00 p.m. in the Pico House Gallery located at 424 N. Main Street, Los Angeles, 90012 honoring National Women’s History Month. All are welcome to attend.
What We Do Series: LADOT’s Payroll Section
One of the most important groups not often mentioned is LADOT’s Payroll Section, under the leadership of Payroll Supervisor I, Cynthia Lundy. This section is in charge of making sure that all of our 1900 LADOT employees get paid on time. Thanks to these employees our paychecks have NEVER been late as they process 3,900 payroll adjustments per year. In addition, per year, they have processed and delivered 7,800 payroll checks, 600 employee bonus adjustments and, 21,000 time sheets. Here is the final statistic that is awesome: the Payroll Section processes $4.750 million dollars per pay period. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Cynthia Lundy, Catherine Chan and Karen Horton for making sure that we at LADOT get paid on time.

Remembering Alex Baum: Visionary Voice for L.A. Cycling
Last Sunday, surrounded by family, Alex Baum, a champion of mobility in Los Angeles and beyond, passed away. He was 92. Many would recognize his name because of a unique bridge that spans over Los Feliz Blvd. by the Los Angeles River and Hwy 5 freeway, which ushers cyclists and pedestrians through two 24-foot diameter bicycle spoke and rim features. But those entrenched in cycling culture would know him to be more than that. While serving under Mayor Tom Bradley, Alex helped form the Los Angeles Bicycle Advisory Committee (LABAC) in 1973, being the chairman for more than 25 years. Under his watch, bicycle lanes began to appear throughout the county and even along the coast of Santa Monica Bay, enabled by former Councilman Marvin Braude. Even while semi-retired, holding the distinction of Chairman Emeritus, Baum continued to attend LABAC meetings. LADOT will truly miss this hero.
