November 6, 2025 Van Nuys Neighborhood Council President Kathy Schreiner spoke at the Grand Opening of the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial at the Van Nuys Civic Center.
She expressed appreciation on behalf of Van Nuys residents for the monument and the green space around it. She said she hoped that the accomplishments of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be an inspiration to girls and young women and asked that people also think of this as a new green space that can enliven the Van Nuys Civic Center. She also pointed out that this space is next to the Van Nuys Branch Library and expressed her hope that visitors will utilize it as a “reading space.”
Councilwoman Imelda Padilla notes, “Justice Ginsburg’s legacy is one of strength, intellect, and conviction. Through her lifelong pursuit of justice — from her early work with the ACLU to her decades on the Supreme Court — she helped advance equality for countless people who had been left unheard or unseen.”
Thank you to artist Saya Woolfalk, our City partners — the Bureau of Engineering, Department of Cultural Affairs, and Board of Public Works — and to Hulu and Disney for helping bring this inspiring project to life.
Together, we celebrate not only Justice Ginsburg’s legacy but also the spirit of progress and purpose that she championed — right here in the heart of the San Fernando Valley.
