The Van Nuys Neighborhood Council has focused on expanding our outreach in 2022 across community events.

We greeted stakeholders and invited participation at the Delano Recreation Center Summer Night Lights in June and the Movie Night in August. We had a table at resource fairs for the Probation Department, Valley Presbyterian Hospital Health Fair and for the Senior Center.

We helped make fun family events possible with our sponsorship of Halloween events with Van Nuys LAPD and the Van Nuys Recreation Center and for the LAPD Toys on Patrol Holiday event and we were on hand to greet attendees.

VNNC Participated in community clean ups-3 pictures

VNNC partnered with Volunteers Cleaning Communities for several clean ups in Van Nuys and we have made available information on how to create regular community clean ups.

We use our meetings to hear from stakeholders on key issues and represent Van Nuys to City Hall, making our voices heard. We specifically took a position against above ground options for the Sepulveda Transit Corridor and we stood up against the racists conversations by City Council Members.

Our Board Members work behind the scenes as well to make a difference for Van Nuys. VNNC Board Member Suju Vijayan worked with City Council Member Nithya Raman’s Office and LASAN to get trash cans placed on Oxnard between Sepulveda and Van Nuys.

Our Human Services Committee hosted a Homeless Forum to share information on encampments, temporary housing and more. Indeed, we have a vibrant group of committees in place and everyone is welcome to join in the meetings, where the real work is done.
