Krekorian, Buscaino Announce LA Sidewalk Repair Policy
City Councilmembers to Discuss, Debate and Recommend Comprehensive Plan for Approval
LOS ANGELES- Today, a joint City Council committee hearing with announce a final policy framework to repair all of LA’s broken sidewalks. Led by City Councilmembers Paul Krekorian and Joe Buscaino, who started this process 8 public meetings and 16 months ago, the plan will address the miles of sidewalks outside of people’s homes, schools, apartments and businesses. After the committees approve the sidewalk repair policy today, it will then go to the full City Council for a vote.

“We’ve read reports, considered staff recommendations and received invaluable input from hundreds of Angelenos about what LA’s sidewalk repair policy should look like,” said LA budget chair Paul Krekorian. “All of this has helped us get to a place where we can make some decisions. My goal is to approve a fair and comprehensive policy that we can bring to the full City Council, one that will result in the repair of every sidewalk that needs it.”
BACKGROUND
Already, the work by Councilmembers Krekorian and Buscaino has resulted in tens of millions of dollars going toward sidewalk repairs at public parks, libraries and rec centers and the creation of a sidewalk repair trust fund. In line with an ADA settlement, the city has dedicated $1.4 billion over the next 30 years to repairing sidewalks and ensuring accessibility for all residents.
