This weekend signifies the end of summer, and the return of the younger ones of our society to school. It’s also a celebration of the labor movement, workers’ rights, and good old-fashioned American hard work and determination.
In light of all of this, I would like to wish you a Happy Labor Day weekend. I would also like to update you on the continued work our council is doing to improve Van Nuys and the San Fernando Valley as a whole.
We are taking the lead in addressing “Child Sex Trafficking & Prostitution” in the Valley. Our council will be voting on a “Community Impact Statement” that directly targets “Johns” by impounding their cars. As soon as this passes our council, we will take it to the other 34 neighborhood councils in the Valley, with the hope that Chief Charlie Beck and the LAPD can change their policy on impounding cars used in the act of prostitution.
Besides that, we are having leadership elections and committee chairperson elections, as well as a variety of other items that are on our agenda. I look forward to seeing you next Wednesday night in Van Nuys at our council chambers.
It is a special privilege to serve as the Honorary Mayor of Van Nuys and the Council President, and thank you for this great opportunity to be a part of our community.
