Noted Speakers at the 8th Annual Valley Disaster Preparedness Fair on October 3, 2015
Starting at 10:30 am in the Community Room at Fire Station 87, 10124 Balboa Blvd., Granada Hills, we’ll have a series of four 30-minute talks from four notable speakers. LAFD Paramedic/Captain Stacy Gerlich will lead off with a discussion of the recent San Andreas movie, personal preparedness, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and the LAFD’s new configuration. At 11:15 am, we’ll hear from Dr. Kate Hutton, describing how amateur (ham) radio, including the National Traffic System (NTS) and other groups, provides communications during disasters. Then, at 12:00 noon, Dr. Jill Barnes from the Office of Emergency Services, School Operations, for the Los Angeles Unified School District, will describe how LAUSD prepares for and responds to emergencies and disasters. She will be followed at 12:45 pm by Mr. Tim Kneeland, wilderness and survival expert, helping us learn how to stay alive during emergencies and disasters. We’re also working on a bonus presentation starting at 1:30 pm, so stay tuned!
Please encourage your stakeholders, family, and friends to register and attend! Everything at the Fair is free, thanks to our generous supporters and contributors, including many Neighborhood Councils throughout Los Angeles.
