Celebrate the Day of the Dead and honor the lives of those who have passed on a special Día de los Muertos themed art tour on Sunday, Nov. 2. The free, one-night-only tour will explore artworks along the Metro Gold Line through the lens of renowned Dia de los Muertos specialist, artist Consuelo Flores. Take the whole family and tour various stations to see artwork along the Gold Line. Finish the tour with Self Help Graphics & Art and celebrate the evening at their 41st annual celebration!
Consuelo Flores is an established poet, writer, mixed media, installation and performance artist. She is respected for her understanding and promotion of the true celebration of the Day of the Dead (DOD). She is a lecturer, narrative writer and visual artist of DOD-themed work including, academic presentations, prose, poetry, fashions and site-specific Ofrendas/Altares. Her dedicated work contributes to the cultural awareness of the Day of the Dead as well as a personal means to commemorate her dead in a meaningful and joyous celebration of life.
The event will include special musical performances by Las Cafeteras, Raul y Mexia, Metralleta de Oro, The Stone Soul Echoes, ¡Aparato!, Magaly La Voz de Oro, and more at Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez High School, directly across from Self Help Graphics & Art.
The tour will depart at 4:30 p.m. from the Metro Gold Line East LA Civic Center Station and end at 6 p.m. at Self Help Graphics’ 41st Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration in Boyle Heights near Pico/Aliso Station. TAP card holders, Metro employees, and LA County employees will be able to save 10% on artwork at the event.
The tour is approximately 90% walking. There are elevators and escalators in all of the stations, and only Mariachi Station is underground.
Go Metro: Start the tour at 4780 E. 3rd Street, at East LA Civic Center Station. The tour ends at 1311 E. 1st Street, at Pico/Aliso Station. All stations visited will be located on the Gold Line.
