Are you interested in being a docent for one of our city’s most important historical landmarks? Now you have the opportunity to become an Angelita.
The Angelitas are a wonderful group of individuals who provide tours and interact with individuals from all over the world visiting El Pueblo.
Las Angelitas del Pueblo will be hosting a series of training classes starting on June 7. Classes will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 12 and 19 at the Las Angelitas del Pueblo office at 130 Paseo de la Plaza, next to the city’s first Firehouse and directly across from Union Station.
The classes feature multi-media presentations of historic photos, as well as lectures from local history experts. Classes will focus on the early history of Los Angeles, beginning before the city’s founding as a Spanish pueblo in 1781 and continuing through the Mexican War of Independence, acquisition by the United States, and its subsequent growth. This is a great opportunity to actively engage in passing on information about the birthplace of the City and all the rich history that is Los Angeles.
Each volunteer commits to offering several tours on two weekdays or one Saturday per month. Tours last 50 minutes and cover various locales throughout the park including the plaza, Pico House, Avila Adobe, and more.
Benefits of becoming a docent include building relationships with people who share a common interest, becoming an active participant in the community, hearing regularly scheduled guest lecturers, taking behind-the-scenes field trips to destinations around the city, and more.
