Music2014

Collaborations are like people — they come in all sizes and shapes. Big ones, small ones, and the ones that take your breath away because they are so perfect.

Make Music LA has developed some extraordinary collaborations. Last Wednesday, a truly divine partnership brought about an event that was full of exuberance, joy, and music in one of LA’ s most iconic buildings.

Partners Metro, The Jazz Education Network, Beyond the Bell Branch, LAUSD, and Make Music LA came together to present a jazz flash mob at Union Station.

The event was fantastic! Not just because we say so… but because of the electricity and energy that was in the air. The music resonating through the great hall lifted the spirits of travelers waiting for trains, those running to catch trains, and the men and women who keep Union Station running like a clock. People were happy, clapping in time to the music, with shouts of “Oh yeah!” when the music was over. A spontaneous few minutes of joy!

Anyone can create synergistic partnerships within business, school, churches, organizations and neighborhoods. All you have to do is first of all find the common ground — the shared interest — and the next step is to open the lines of communication
and just ask. It is really that simple. You will be happily surprised with the results.

In your neighborhood there are businesses, schools, libraries, arts organizations, museums, and galleries, all of who would enjoy collaborating to reach a wider audience and potentially new customers. In addition, you have thousands of talented stakeholders who you have not met and who are an untapped resource.

Reach out and collaborate with another Neighborhood Council for a musical event and call on your talented students, professionals, and amateurs to create music in your community for MMLA.
