This week a brand new Tiny Home Village in Van Nuys opened, adding 100 new beds to our District’s supply of interim housing. This is our fourth Tiny Home Village in District 2, enabling us to shelter over 700 unhoused people every night.
These sites provide residents with safety, stability and privacy, as well as laundry and hygiene facilities, showers, heat and air conditioning.
Interim shelters are not meant to be a destination; they are a bridge from the streets to long-term housing, a place where residents receive comprehensive supportive services so they are prepared to pursue the rest of their lives outside of the Tiny Home Village. I am committed to creating sustainable, long-term solutions to homelessness, ensuring that public spaces remain accessible and safe for everyone in our district.
The Van Nuys Tiny Home Village is operated by Hope the Mission, which also operates District 2’s three other Tiny Home Villages, our two “A Bridge Home” sites and our Homeless Services Navigation Center in North Hollywood.
Homelessness in Los Angeles is a problem that can’t be solved overnight, but one step at a time, we’re making a difference.
