Animals Services Department meets with Neighborhood Councils
This past Monday, Department of Animal Services General Manager Ms. Brenda Barnette and her staff met with Neighborhood Council Animal Services Liaisons at Ramona Hall in Highland Park to share information about the services and programs it provides to Angelenos and to listen to feedback from NCs. Some of the items highlighted included updates on improving the strategic plan; their partnership the Departments of Recreation & Parks and the Bureau of Sanitation to protect wildlife at large parks; how often to meet with Liaisons; and the ongoing efforts to protect the life and improve the safety of Angelenos, domestic animals, and wildlife. Ms. Barnette invited all NCs to work with her to monitor legislation and to weigh in on issues that matter the most to NCs by attending or monitoring the Board of Animal Services Commission and City Council Personnel & Animal Welfare Committee meetings to gather information about LA Animal Services programs, goals and projects, as well as the City animal ordinances and rules. Thank you to those NCs that took the time to be at the meeting on a chilly winter evening and thank you to Animal Services for their welcoming efforts to partner with NCs. For any questions or comments with regards to this meeting or engaging as an Animal Services Liaison, please contact Sara Ebrahimi with the Department of Animal Services at [email protected].
About Animal Services Liaisons
By each Neighborhood Council appointing an Animal Services Liaison (Liaison), the NC creates an opportunity to partner with the Department of Animal Services (DAS) to work on issues and services impacting Los Angeles neighborhoods. Liaisons are the eyes, ears, and voice for their respective communities; complement the outreach efforts of the DAS; and serve as the primary point of contact for the DAS. Liaisons receive direct communication from the department and get invited to meetings with department staff to discuss relevant issues. Animal Services Liaisons will help the Department of Animal Services and City Hall focus on getting “Back to Basics” and helping make the city safer, more prosperous and livable with a well-run government.
