Hey There Dog Park Supporters!
It’s been a while since our last meeting but wait no more, we will be having on on the 3rd Tuesday (the 19th) of July. Details will come soon.
Whether a member yet or not, we appreciate your support and hope you enjoyed our Patriotic Pups event on May 28th. If you didn’t make it this year, we hope to make it an annual affair. Jes Macallan was lovely as our celebrity guest and ten pups found their “forever homes”!
Coming up are a few important dates:
• June 25th – Woodley Park We are holding an adoption event at 5pm before Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council’s Movie Madness showing of the most recent “Star Wars” film. Dogs are welcome to bring their humans! Adoptions start at 5, movie begins at sundown.
* June 18th, July 2nd, July 9th and July 16th – Volunteers are needed to help finish building and installing the agility courses that scout Conrad Rutherford is spearheading for the park, earning his Eagle rank! Please find the schedule below and feel free to contact him directly or us for more information.
• July/August Date TBD – Small/Timid Park – Ribbon cutting. Our Guest of Honor will be the General Manager of Recreation and Parks, Michael Shull who was behind the agility course project from the start and made it happen! Please stay tuned, we will have details soon!
As the agility courses are coming to fruition and the budget was estimated to be $3,100 to complete, Conrad actually raised most of this on his own, we raised $250 through a grant from the Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council and Justin Bonney who matched the $250 grant, but he is still shy of the $3,100.
But we haven’t approached the park community yet! We can help Conrad reach his goal AND can also add a tunnel to the course if we raise another $1,000. We are reaching out to all our members, non members, officials, whoever we can to contribute to this amazing project. Just to compare to a purchased agility course which would cost $10,000, for just ONE, which would still have to be installed by Recs and Parks, we are getting THREE for less than half including installation!
Anything we raise over this amount will be used towards funding the park, our operating costs and as a non-profit are tax deductible.
Please find the present plans attached, a photo of the sturdy Corrugated Plastic Drain Pipe that would be used for the tunnel and a couple of photos of one of the ramps in progress.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
