My Fellow Citizens,
We are roughly a month away from our neighborhood council elections, and I would like to thank the candidates that are running for public office for the first time, and those Councilmembers seeking re-election. I hope we have a high voter turnout, and look forward to welcoming some new blood to the Council and the local government in Van Nuys.
We are having our regularly scheduled Van Nuys General Council Meeting this coming Wednesday, and I invite all residents and stakeholders to come by and participate. We are also having a candidates forum starting at 6pm, so the community can “Meet & Greet” those running for city government posts. (6262 Van Nuys Boulevard)
Another one of our agenda items is building a subway from Van Nuys to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Creating improvements to our transportation infrastructure is important, and coming up with long term goals is one of the priorities of this council.
We are also beginning to undertake the very ambitious notion of creating a “Business Improvement District” (BID) along Van Nuys Boulevard from Sherman Oaks through Van Nuys all the way up to Pacoima. (The entire length of Van Nuys Boulevard, including Panorama City & Arleta as well.) If you would like to get involved and help create this BID, please let me know. Cheers.
It is a special privilege to serve as the Council President and Honorary Mayor of Van Nuys, and thank you for this great opportunity to be a part of our community.
-George Christopher Thomas, Council President & Honorary Mayor of Van Nuys
