Van Nuys Neighborhood Council (VNNC) Outreach Committee chair Maria Skelton attended the LA Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Great Streets event at the Mayor’s residence the Getty House in Windsor Square Neighborhood back in late January. Many community activist, neighborhood council members, LA County Bicycle Coalition and civic leaders attended the event is making their streets great again which Van Nuys Blvd. between Oxnard and Victory Blvd. is part of the LA Great Streets Initiative.
Special guest to the event, LA local Danny Trejo, spoke about getting involve in communities to make it better and how street murals deter from graffiti vandals from tagging walls, especially the image of the Virgin Mary. His quote is “the better we are, the better our community is!”.
On February 20th at 1-6 pm, there will be a design community workshops on climate resiliency through stormwater, a historical bike tour of Van Nuys and a festival from 6:00 – 9:00 pm which local brewery Macleod’s and Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians will be there. The event is spearheaded by the Arid Land Institute in coordination with LACBC, Pacoima Beautitful and Councilwoman Nury Martinez.
