What We Do Series: Parking Enforcement and Traffic Control Division Training Unit
LADOT’s Parking Enforcement and Traffic Control Division Training Unit, under the direction of Training Manager Lieutenant Jody Perez and Recruitment Coordinator Sargent Barbara Hartsfield, performs a myriad of functions. These include training new traffic officers so that we meet our customer’s highest expectations, and procurement of equipment, uniforms and supplies. This group also tracks and records all training received by our professional cadre of officers. The unit provides efficient and courteous service and acts as ‘ambassadors’ by providing traffic control training to various other agencies.
LADOT’s Outstanding Performers – October
Members of the Transportation Committee, along with General Manager Seleta Reynolds, recognized dedicated and innovative employees from our Parking Enforcement and Traffic Control as well as Parking Management and Regulations groups, for their outstanding performance and great dedication to the City of Los Angeles and LADOT’s Vision and Mission.
Officer Barbre distinguished himself by helping to save the life of an Angeleno who was sitting precariously on top of the Cesar Chavez bridge overpass and before she lost her balance, helped her off the ledge averting a sure tragedy.

World ITS Congress
Last week Peer Ghent with LADOT’s Parking Meters Division presented his co-authored technical paper at the World Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Congress in Bordeaux, France. The ITS Congress and Exhibition is the world’s largest event in intelligent transport systems and services. Through the main theme “Towards Intelligent Mobility – Better Use of Space,” the Bordeaux Congress focused on how achieving intelligent mobility will change our lives and also on the benefits space can bring to ITS applications. Peer spoke on using analytics to understand on-street parking during a session focused on urban trends driving ITS changes.
CicLAvia – Heart of LA is coming
This Sunday, October 18, CicLAvia will celebrate a fifth-year anniversary for the six miles route on the streets of Downtown Los Angles. Five years, fourteen events and hundreds of thousands of participants later, CicLAvia is the largest open streets event in North America. The route will take people through Boyle Heights, the Arts District, Little Tokyo, Civic Center, Chinatown, Historic Core and as far west as MacArthur Park. Taste of Soul
Are You Ready? Taste of Soul will be on Crenshaw Blvd. between Stocker and Rodeo Roads. The family festival takes place annually in October and features a taste of all things “soulful” including food from local restaurants, live entertainment, displays by local artists, and exhibits from local businesses and organizations. “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” is the largest cancer awareness event in the nation. Nearly 300 communities participate.
