Call for Artists: Sacred Memories Exhibit 2015

El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument and El Pueblo Park Association present an exhibition entitled “SACRED MEMORIES: Cross-Cultural Celebrations of Day of the Dead.”  The exhibit will be on view from October 23 to November 29, 2015 in the Pico House gallery.

Sacred Memories will explore the world’s rituals that venerate the departed including Dia de los Muertos, first observed by the indigenous people of Latin America, China’s Qingming, Korea’s Chuseok, and other rituals practiced in United States, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.

Artists are asked to submit two and three-dimensional work (including ofrendas/altars) that examines rituals honoring the deceased and/or pays tribute to departed ancestors.  Interactive and interpretive works will be particularly encouraged.

Open to established and emerging artists of all mediums. The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 31, 2015 by 5:00pm.

SUBMISSION DIRECTIONS:

  1. Fill out the Online Submission Form using the link above. You must fill out an Online Submission for each entry
  2. If you are submitting the maximum of 4 submissions, you must fill out the Online Submission Form 4 times.
  3. Then Email the Hi-Res jpeg of the artwork to: [email protected]
  4. Please make sure that the NAME of the JPG you are emailing MATCHES the TITLE of the artwork that you filled out on the Online Submission Form.
  5. Please be sure to have good quality hi-res images (500KB to 2MB) and the colors represent the true color of the artwork.
  6. If you are submitting the maximum of 4 submissions, then email ALL FOUR (4) images into ONE EMAIL.
  7. Your email  MUST HAVE the following SUBJECT LINE to be considered: SACRED MEMORIES 2015 | Image Submission | Artist Name  (please type in your name
  8. This exact subject line MUST be used as all emails are automatically sorted by the image submissions headline. El Pueblo Historical Monument and the History & Special Events Division are not responsible for incorrect or mislabeled emails, nor are they responsible for emails that might be sorted into the Spam folder, or for incomplete submissions, submissions without images or file names and names that do not match.
  9. A one time, non-refundable $5 application fee is required from each participating artist. Artists may submit up to 4 (four) submissions. Checks should be made out to El Pueblo Park Association. The application fee will be used to off-set the cost of keeping our exhibits free to the public.

Artists whose work is accepted for the exhibit will be notified by the end of August. Upon notification, images of accepted work may be used in the exhibition’s publicity.
