Cárdenas Pleased With Supreme Court Redistricting Decision
(Washington, DC) — U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley, Calif.) issued a statement today, following a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States that Congressional district maps drawn by a citizen commission in Arizona were Constitutional.
The case impacts California as well, following a 2010 move to an independent commission for redistricting in the state.
“I am pleased that the will of the people has been respected by the Court,” said Cárdenas. “California has created a board that reflects the diversity of our state and the needs of our residents. Our independent board will not be swayed by money in politics, incumbency or any political party, but will continue to ensure that as many Californians as possible have a voice in deciding who represents them, both in Sacramento and in Washington.”
