What We Do Series: LADOT’s Active Transportation Division
The new, LADOT Active Transportation Division was formed from coalescing the bicycle and pedestrian programs.  The team, headed up by Senior Transportation Engineer, Pauline Chan, is a blend of planners, project coordinators and assistants, engineers, and an administrator.  The division is the main contributor toward LADOT’s Strategic Plan goals for a Safe City and a Livable and Sustainable City, and is the lead for more than 30 strategies from Strategic Plan and other core duties, some of which include these programs: Vision Zero, Safe Routes to School, People St, Complete Streets design innovations and outreach, Neighborhood Friendly Streets/Greenways, Bike Share, Bicycle Friendly Business Program, active transportation data collection, interconnected bicycle network, and bicycle parking.

Wilshire BRT Phase Two
Five additional miles of Wilshire Boulevard bus lanes are officially open for business.  The Wilshire Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project consists of 9.9 miles of street, signal and signage improvements on Wilshire Boulevard, including 7.7 miles of peak period curbside bus lanes. The lanes will improve travel times for bus passengers on one of the busiest transit corridors in L.A. County.  The project will be completed in three phases. Phase One (1.8 miles) opened June 2013; with Phase Three (0.9 miles) opening in the Fall of 2015.  Congratulations to METRO, LADOT, the Bureau of Engineering, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works as this was truly a multi-agency collaboration.
