The Valley’s Honorary Mayors & Local Neighborhood Councils To Sponsor “Disaster Preparedness Summit” And Launch The First Permanent Volunteer Preparedness Training Center In Los Angeles On April 25th
NORTH HILLS, CA — The San Fernando Valley’s Honorary Mayors and several local Neighborhood Councils are coming together to sponsor the first annual “Whole Community Volunteer Interactive Preparedness Summit” on April 25th, 2015.
“Planning, Preparedness and Training are the keys to a resilient community, minimizing any disaster’s disruption to everyday life and the local economy. At the Summit, we’re bringing useful information and skills to the community that will make them equipped to be more prepared for a disaster. We look forward to replicating this model in the Valley and throughout Los Angeles,” said LAPD Volunteer & Summit Coordinator Cheryl Cashman.
“This Summit is the confluence of community leaders and first responders coming together to teach what is actually going to happen when a disaster strikes Los Angeles. We are kicking off a series of these trainings, as well as launching the first permanent volunteer preparedness center in Los Angeles on Saturday, and we hope the entire community will attend and learn basic survival skills they can apply in future situations,” said Honorary Mayor of Van Nuys & Council President George Thomas.
First, you register to enter the summit, then you will experience numerous exercises including: Hands On Interactive Preparedness Presentations, Trainings, Compression-Only CPR, Urban Survival Techniques, “A Taste Of Preparedness” Disaster Relief Beverage + Food Service, What You Need To Know from the LA Dept. of Water & Power, the Gas Company, How To Use Portable Solar Power, Emergency Communications and lots more! (10:00 AM TO 3:00 PM) All food will be available starting at 11:30 AM and served on a first come, first served basis – as long as it lasts! Every time you do a hands-on experience, you earn a completion ticket. Once you have earned three hands-on colored tickets, you have earned the choice of “A FREE LUNCH” or a free personal preparedness item.
