BRINGING KIDS TOGETHER TO HONOR DR. KING’S DREAM
Children from diverse communities given the opportunity to play sports together
Los Angeles, CA– For the sixth consecutive year, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks has teamed up with the Friends of West Los Angeles to present the 2015 Dream Games previously known as the International Dream Games. The Dream Games were created to recognize the legacy of Dr. King, to bring children and their families together for one common goal – to give kids in Los Angeles the chance to play sports.
The Dream Games will tip-off on Saturday, January 17 at 9:30 a.m. at Westwood Sports Complex, 1350 S. Sepulveda Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90045. A speaking ceremony will be held at
12:30 p.m. with special guests.
The Dream Games will give kids from twelve different Los Angeles City Recreation Centers the opportunity to participate in a basketball exhibition during the weekend of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The twelve participating recreation centers are Banning, Chevy Chase, Costello, Cypress, Echo, EXPO, Highland, Hubert Humphrey, Martin Luther King Jr., Normandale, Pan Pacific and Westwood.
Over 160 kids will be drafted onto combined teams in the spirit of Dr. King to learn that differences in ethnic heritage, socioeconomics, and religious beliefs all disappear once the whistle blows and the game begins.
“The Department of Recreation and Parks is thankful for the opportunity to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in partnership with the Friends of West Los Angeles, and what better way to do so than bringing the children of Los Angeles together for a day of family fun,” said Michael A. Shull, General Manager, Recreation and Parks.
