LOS ANGELES — Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that the City’s Bureau of Sanitation will pick up Christmas trees at the curb for free. In addition, Angelenos may drop off their trees at 18 locations citywide on January 4. The trees will be recycled into compost and mulch.
“Getting rid of a Christmas tree can be a hassle and dried-out trees are a fire danger, so we want to make it easy and free for Angelenos to dispose of them,” Mayor Garcetti said. “Because we recycle the trees into compost and mulch, we save money and avoid taking them to landfills, too.”
Angelenos can have their Christmas trees taken away by cutting them up and putting them in their green waste bins. Angelenos may also place their their trees next to their green bins on collection day. Residents of multifamily buildings may place their trees next to their green bins as well.
Additionally, trees may be dropped off at 18 locations citywide on Sunday, January 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Check lamayor.org/treerecycle for the latest information and location information
