The City of Los Angeles Domestic Violence Task Force and A Window Between Worlds are commemorating Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October, providing opportunities throughout the month for the community to gather in solidarity to bring awareness to the complex issue of domestic violence. The theme of the events is based on the ongoing I CAN WE CAN art initiative launched by A Window Between Worlds to strengthen, connect, and unite the community to end domestic violence.

The October 10th Day of Action began with a press conference in the City Hall Rotunda at 9:00am and featured a display of powerful I CAN art created by survivors of domestic violence, community advocates, and the Los Angeles Domestic Violence Task Force. This press conference was held by the City of Los Angeles Domestic Violence Task Force and A Window Between Worlds and showcased the Task Force partnerships around this work.

The artwork will be on view in the City Hall East Bridge Gallery through October 28th. It is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm.

The organization A Window Between Worlds is partnering with the City in a public awareness campaign regarding domestic violence victims and their struggles. A Window Between Worlds is a nationally recognized non-profit dedicated to using art to end domestic violence. They are compiling an exhibit of photos of prominent public figures holding a paper handprint of their own creation with a statement about what they can do to end domestic violence; Mayor Garcetti will be participating in this project.
