CA great ShakeOut

Everyone, everywhere, should know how to protect themselves in an earthquake. Even if earthquakes are rare where you live, they may happen where you or your family travel. Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills are an annual opportunity for people in homes, schools, and organizations to practice what to do during earthquakes, and to improve preparedness.

On Saturday October 11th the City of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department (EMD) and the Tarzana Neighborhood Council are participating in the world’s largest earthquake drill as part of the Great California Shakeout at the Tarzana Recreation Center, located at 5655 Vanalden Avenue, Los Angeles, CA.

You are invited to participate by playing in the following roles: Search & Rescue, Medical Staff, a survivor, or more! Experience not required. If you don’t wish to participate you are still invited to come watch all the action and visit our Disaster Survival Fair after the drill.

The following is an estimated timeline for the earthquake drill event:
9:00 AM to 10:30 AM – Community emergency response
10:30 AM to 11:30 AM – City emergency response
10:40 AM – LAFD Helicopter Landing
11:30 AM – Press Conference
12:00 PM to 3:00 PM – Disaster Survival Fair: entertainment, games, prizes and more

Join us afterward for the Disaster Survival Fair from Noon to 3:00pm at Tarzana Park. There will be music, games, prizes, disaster survival supplies, police and fire equipment and more!
