    • a. A request has been made by LA City Councilman Paul Krekorian for the VNNC to submit a Community Impact Statement (CIS) in regards to the Citywide Sidewalk Repair Program.
    • b. The VNNC to submit a Community Impact Statement (CIS) in regards to the Child & Sex Trafficking Summit. The VNNC will come up with legislative language for the LA City Council and our State Representatives to address this very important issue. (Councilman Josef Lazavoritz)
    • c. The VNNC is participating in the Libraries Transforming Communities Initiative. The Van Nuys Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library is hosting a series of community conversations to discuss our shared hopes for Van Nuys’ future. (Kelly Tyler, Van Nuys Head Librarian)
    • d. “ Valley on Track” — Request a letter of Support for rail on East Valley Transit Line. Valley on Track supports the expansion of the Metro Rail system along the Orange Line and planned transit corridors in the San Fernando Valley in order to get the Valley on track to a 21st century transit system.     • e. Funding request from Strength United. Operating through California State University Northridge’s (CSUN) Michael D. Eisner College of Education, Strength United provides a unique interdisciplinary approach to ending abuse and violence through the collaboration of mental health professionals, educators, researchers, students and volunteers. (NTE $1000)

    • s. Purchase of new VNNC shirts for outreach. The VNNC will use the collared and crew-neckt-shirts to promote outreach and get the community more involved. The t-shirts bring representation of the Council and recognition throughout Los Angeles. (NTE $1000)
    • t. Presentation and puppet show by L. Williams. The puppet show will teach life lessons and how to deal with bullies. The puppet show will also teach how to fit in at school and other life coping skills. (Maria Skelton)
    • u. Speech and Presentation by Sandy Logan of the National Council of Drug and Alcohol Dependence (NCAD). Ms. Logan will discuss how to check IDs, how to decrease underage drinking, coping skills, and how being a teenager is just part of growing up. (15 minutes)
    • v. VNNC to submit a “Request For Action” to City of LA, County of LA, and the Parks & Recreation Department regarding the pergola in front of the LAPD Van Nuys Station.
    • w. Establish a budget for outreach trinkets and doodads. The VNNC will vote on purchasing USB adapters, USB wall chargers, frisbees with VNNC logos and VNNC letter-opener keychains. (NTE $2500)
    • x. The VNNC to discuss and purchase a table banner to use at outreach events in the community. The VNNC shall seek out three bids for a table banner, and make final recommendations to the Council. (NTE $500)
    • y. The VNNC to discuss and purchase a “Pop-Up-Tent” to use at community events for outreach. The VNNC shall seek out three bids for a tent. (NTE $500)
    • z. Establish an Ad-Hoc Committee to celebrate the 100 year anniversary and centennial of Van Nuys High School in 2015. (John Hendry)
  9. Old Business
    • a. Vote to reimburse Secretary John Hendry for Fed-Ex and copying expenses. ($13.18)
    • b. Update on honoring community leader Monica Benevidez (Jim Dantona)
    • c. Van Nuys Neighborhood Council Budget Package for fiscal year 2014-2015. The BudgetPackage is due by September 1, 2014. The VNNC to discuss and debate our use of government funds allocated from the City of Los Angeles. The VNNC to formally go over the required paperwork, and authorize and vote on
    • d. Consideration and possible on filling vacant seats on the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council. The VNNC will entertain any and all membership applications submitted for vacant seats. — ACTION ITEM
