Hello,
I am writing on behalf of EnrichLA to request the opportunity to give a 10-minute presentation, as part of our ongoing effort to save the historic Figueroa/Riverside Bridge from demolition (Cultural Monument # 908). WE DO NOT NEED TO DEMOLISH THIS beautiful, old BRIDGE. While the bridge may not be in your neighborhood, any use or development of the Los Angeles River surely must be important to your group.
Working together with RAC Design/Build and Los Angeles Walks, we have developed a simple elegant plan to save this old bridge and repurpose it as an inexpensive park or “Land-bridge”.
This plan has been developed specifically to avoid little additional costs. In other words, the savings from not demolishing the old bridge are to be used to repurpose the bridge instead. This is, in essence, a new public space at little cost.
See the Highline in New York City. They converted an old transport line into a stunning park. Genius! NY can do this and LA can’t? I don’t think so.
The plan opens up options to connect the river bike/pedestrian paths north to the cornfields, downtown and beyond.
We are about to spend millions of dollars restoring the river. We have finally realized the value in having a more natural river. We surely must realize the value of history, of saving our money, of repurposing rather than destroying, and of creating beautiful spaces for a park-poor area.
We have been asked by CD 1 and others to gather support. We have already gained support from many community groups and neighborhood councils,
I look forward to being in touch.
