POLL-place-704x318Neighborhood Council elections take place in libraries, schools, recreation centers, farmers markets, churches, shopping centers, parks, and even in local museums and cultural centers.

While the wide variety of polling locations reflect the unique personalities and character of each community, all polling places have several things in common. They need to accommodate a large number of people who want to cast their votes efficiently and smoothly.

Polling locations should be highly visible, easily accessible, ADA compliant, and able to handle lots of voters who may arrive on foot, by bike, on public transit, and in private vehicles. There should be an entrance and a separate exit to ensure smooth flow and there must be room for the different stations that include the greeter, registration, verification, balloting, voting booths, and the ballot box.

Come Neighborhood Council set up a Candidates Corral” where candidates can engage the voters (at least 100’ from the entrance to the polling location) and outreach tables at the exit with information on the many council activities so that voters can get more involved.

Poll Managers depend on energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to help them get the polling locations set up, from the stations inside to the signage on the exterior and the interior of the location.

This video offers an overview of the polling place setup as well as a brief introduction to the polling supplies that are delivered to each polling location.

Whether you’re a candidate, a voter, a volunteer, or all three, thank you for all you do to EmpowerLA!
