In April 2014, Van Nuys Neighborhood Council sponsored a “Disaster Preparedness Summit” to prepare for the next earthquake or another catastrophe in Sountern California by inviting disaster relief experts from Homeland Security, LA Police Department, The Red Cross, The Gas Company and LA Fire Department to present information and demonstration in case our area is experiencing a disaster. Also who sponsored are Los Angeles City Council Member Paul Krekorian, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Los Angeles City Council Member Nury Martinez, Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles Police Department, American Red Cross with the help of LAPD Volunteer Cheryl Cashman, Local Businessman Kambiz Merabi and and VNNC board member Josef Lazarovitz for their help in the event.
The recent earthquakes in Southern California have highlighted the importance of the issue and the largest neighborhood council in the San Fernando Valley is taking the lead in getting everyone prepared for “The Big One.”
The focus of the summitt is to inform the community about disasters and earthquakes in the Los Angeles area, primarily getting prepared and what steps they need to take in order to do that. Documents that are provided in this page in a digital format are Emergency Preparedness Guides from the Red Cross, SOS Survival catalogs, some specific handouts on CERT and a checklist. We encourage everyone to downland to your digital devices or print in case there are no power.
The VNNC would like to thank the presenters for the April Event:
