SUMMARY:Caltrans to Host Meeting for the Interstate 405 Sepulveda Pass Pavement Rehabilitation Project
DESCRIPTION:The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will hold a virtual\, informational meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday\, June 10 for the Interstate 405 (I-405) Pavement Rehabilitation Project. \nThis project will extend the pavement life along I-405 in Los Angeles from the communities of Van Nuys to Westwood along with other upgrades and improvements. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring/summer 2025 and last through winter 2028/2029. \nOnce complete\, the approximately $143.7 million project will rehabilitate pavement\, enhance safety features\, and improve pedestrian infrastructure along Interstate 405 (I-405) through the Sepulveda Pass. \nThe improvements will extend along I-405 from Victory Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley to Wilshire Boulevard in West Los Angeles\, which is an essential commuter corridor from northern Los Angeles County and the San Fernando Valley to Los Angeles International Airport\, south bay cities and Orange County. Pavement will be rehabilitated along approximately 92 lane miles including replacing sections between Victory Boulevard and Mulholland Drive and repairing sections of other lanes along I-405 between the project limits. \nThese renovations will enhance motorist’s safety\, ride quality\, and mobility along this stretch of roadway. \nCaltrans will be hosting a virtual\, public meeting with a project presentation on the following:\nTuesday\, June 10 starting at 6 p.m. \nRegister: https://cadot.webex.com/weblink/register/r4772c6e9599488cd8d399750275bc555 \nSign up for notifications about the project using the link below.\nIf you have already signed up and are receiving project emails (including this one)\, please do not sign up again. \nSign Up: https://forms.office.com/g/0RU7MzXNDK \nCaltrans will upgrade about 6\,400 feet of Metal Beam Guardrail (MBGR) to meet current standards. Ten culverts will be improved at several locations along I-405. For pedestrian upgrades\, 10 curb ramps will be upgraded to meet new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Additional improvements include replacing sign panels and overhead sign structures with retroreflective paneling. \nThe project includes the following improvements: \n\nReplace sections of two lanes in each direction from Victory Boulevard to Mulholland Drive and repair sections of other lanes throughout the project limits to optimal surface conditions\nReplace bridge approach/departure slabs in six locations between Mulholland Drive and Wilshire Boulevard\nRestore/Replace 10 culverts\nUpgrade 10 ADA curb ramps at on-and-off-ramps\nUpgrade 6\,400 feet of Metal Beam Guardrail (MBGR)\nReplace 98 sign panels with retroreflective signs and two full-span overhead sign structures\nConstruct new Maintenance Vehicle pullouts (MVPs) at four locations for worker safety\nUpgrade 2.5 miles of existing Fiber Communications Conduit and replace Fiber-Optic Cables\n\nDue to weather or operational reasons\, the schedule is subject to change including the times and dates\, the number of closures and other details. SUMMARY:Last Public Hearing: Sepulveda Transit Project
DESCRIPTION:The Sepulveda Transit Corridor is a high capacity rail line being planned to connect the San Fernando Valley and the Westside (with a future link to LAX). All five alternatives begin at the Metrolink station in Van Nuys and end in West LA at the Expo Line. In 2022\, the VNNC took a position to support Alternative 6 (heavy rail running under Van Nuys Blvd.). \nA Draft Environmental Impact Assessment (DEIR) for this project was released a few months ago. The final date for public comments to be submitted on the DEIR is August 30th. On January 10\, Multiple fast-moving blazes ignited and evacuation orders surged in the San Fernando Valley as flames set fire to ridgelines and threatened Valley lives\, homes\, and businesses. As the fires neared the heart of our Valley\, threatening the vital intersection of the 101 and 405 freeways\, our firefighters sprang into action with unmatched courage. Six LAFD helicopters worked tirelessly through the night\, drawing water from the Encino Reservoir to battle the flames. Their bravery\, precision\, and relentless efforts turned the tide\, safeguarding lives\, businesses\, homes\, and essential infrastructure\, including the major transportation corridors.
