JASON ACKERMAN – (Certified)  Hello I’m Jason.
I’m 30, I’ve been active in the Neighborhood Council system since 2012, and I’ve been on the Van Nuys NC since November 2015. I have always been, and will continue to be an outspoken advocate for affordable housing, mobility, and the dignity of all people regardless of class, race, age, gender, or legal status. I want to make sure Van Nuys can improve in terms of community safety, but does so in a way that doesn’t raise rents and displace the hard working families that call it home. We need to help our brothers and sisters living in our alleyways and on our corners find their way off the streets and into stability. It is criminal that in the second largest city in the country we see such blatant inequality, not only in economics, but in our criminal justice system as well. We need our Police to protect us from violence, especially when that violence comes from their own ranks. Let’s work together to make Van Nuys the model of justice and equality we deserve!

As a result we have curtailed wasteful spending and I have made it a priority that as a council we maintain the proper use of public funds.

During my term we have accomplished a great deal including creating a sense of pride for the Van Nuys business owners and stakeholders alike. I also spearheaded expanding the council jurisdictional boarders to encompass an unincorporated area which not only increased the size of the council district, but provided additional stakeholders into our fold that had previously not been represented. I worked tirelessly in establishing a close working relationship with our city, county, state and federal elected representatives.
