Join us for an engaging discussion about the issue of
Human Trafficking and what different agencies are doing to fight it here in Los Angeles County.
This event will feature a presentation that includes speakers fromThorn, the LA County Sheriff’s Department’s Human Trafficking Task Force, The Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking, the LA City Attorney’s office, as well as Dignity Health, and with the support of Cross Campus DTLA.
January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month and our office is hosting a toiletry drive to help human trafficking victims and survivors.
We will be collecting toiletry goods (i.e. shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, etc) until February 13, 2017. Please help spread the word to community members, neighbors, and coworkers to help out with donations that will be going towards a great cause and helping individuals who are in need.
Donations can be dropped off at the Van Nuys City Hall Office, located at 14410 Sylvan Street, Suite 215, Van Nuys, CA 91401. Attached, is a flyer with all of the details mentioned above and different donation sites.
Just a reminder.
Van Nuys Movie Night on Friday (tomorrow), August 12, 2016, will be held at the Van Nuys Civic Center Courtyard at 7:00pm. There will be hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade. Folks are encouraged to bring their blankets! The showing will be “Kung Fu Panda.” The event is free and open to the public!
The Van Nuys Neighborhood Council will also be at the event.

Councilwoman Nury Martinez is hosting on Monday, tomorrow, June 27, 2016 is hosting an free HIV testing event in honor of National HIV Testing Day. The event will take place at the Panorama Mall on 8401 Van Nuys Blvd., Panorama City, CA 91403. It will run from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. No appointment is necessary. You can come up anytime during the event. Hope to see you there.
Councilwoman Nury Martinez will be hosting this coming Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Van Nuys City Hall in honor of National LGBT Pride Month. The event will be held at Van Nuys City Hall’s Council Chambers on the 2nd Floor from 5:00pm-9:00pm. The event will consist of a resource fair, panel discussion and a screening of the award winning film “Vito,” which will chronicle the life of gay rights activist Vito Russo. There will be parking available at the Braude Center Underground Lot at 6262 Van Nuys Blvd. (Parking accessible on Sylvan St.). Light refreshments will be served.
Reminder, Van Nuys Community Clean-up will be at side median on the 6500-6600 Block of Sepulveda Blvd. There will be gloves, tools and trash bags with food and refreshments for the clean-up.
We are looking forward in bringing more community clean ups in Van Nuys and hope to see you there tomorrow.
Councilwoman Nury Martinez is co-hosting Human Trafficking Awareness month with Journey Out. From January 12th to February 12th, they are collecting toiletries to help human trafficking survivors as they attempt to leave the life and build a better future.
They are collecting items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. They are accepting donations at all Council District 6 Offices, Journey Out and at the Van Nuys Branch of the L.A. Public Library.
Please help out with this worthy cause.
Councilwoman Nury Martinez and Deputy Chief Bob Green cordially invite you to the launch of the Operations-Valley Bureau Human Trafficking Task Force. This newly formed task force focuses on prostitution related crimes, arresting pimps, “Johns,” traffickers and other vice and gang crimes associated with human trafficking.

The task force will work with personnel from various entities throughout the City to
combat the aforementioned criminal element from a variety of angles. The various problem-solving approaches involve victim services, environmental improvements, court mandated diversion programs, building meaningful relationships with the community, vigorous prosecution and other evolving concepts.
